Here is an interesting concept to wrap around your head today - are Instagram stars (also known as Social Influencers) making your kids fatter? According to USA Today, there was a new study done in the UK that showed it was a contributing factor to unhealthy lifestyles.
"Researchers from the New University of Liverpool in the U.K. showed three groups of children, 9 to 11 years old, fabricated Instagram pages of real social media influencers with more than 1 million followers. One group was shown images of the social media influencer with unhealthy snacks such as chocolate cookies, another group was shown the influencer with healthy snacks such as bananas, and the third was shown the influencer with non-food items such as sneakers. Children who were shown images of unhealthy snacks consumed 32 percent more calories compared with the other children – about an extra 90 calories a day."
A lot of can be fixed by monitoring what your kids are looking at on their social media and monitoring how much they are using their digital devices.
I tend to follow a lot of people on Instagram who promote fitness, fashion, food and healthy lifestyles (for the most part) so I wonder if comes down to who you follow or maybe these people are playing tricks on me!
What do you think?
