Based on Stephen King’s iconic novel of the same, It stars Bill Skarsgaard as the clown Pennywise, who terrorizes people in a small town. To say any more would be to say too much, but horrors and frights abound.
It was initially expected to earn around $70 million in its first weekend. The movie scared up a whopping $117 million, meaning It holds the title for the highest debut of all time in the month of September.
In addition, its opening day gross alone (about $51 million) broke the records for R-rated movies and horror movies.
