Kelly Clarkson Gets Emotional Over Reba During Kennedy Center Honors

Let’s 'turn back time' to the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors ceremony that took place in Washington DC on Sunday night (Dec. 2). Two of entertainment's favorite divas, Cher, and Reba McEntire sat side by side smiling for a press image that would lead to a star-studded night filled with emotions.

Country music icon, Reba McEntire was presented with a ‘Lifetime Achievement’ honor for her influences on the performing arts community and contributions to American culture.

From sold out shows to TV’s standard broadcasting, Reba’s influence impacted decades. Global entertainer, Kelly Clarkson couldn’t deny the opportunity to give her heartfelt tribute to her childhood icon and mother-in-law.

In an emotional speech, Kelly paid tribute to Reba saying, "If we're all being honest, sometimes when we meet our heroes it doesn't always pan out how you hope," Clarkson added, "but meeting Reba, being friends with her and eventually becoming family has been one of the highlights of my life – truly.”

Kelly recognized Reba for being her rock. "Thank you so much, Reba for listening to me vent as an artist. Thank you so much for comforting me on the phone through my tears like a friend," she added, getting choked up, "and thank you for being a really rad grandma for my kids. I love you so much. I hope you enjoy this song. Don’t judge me.”

The NBC Voice judge then launched into a soul filled cover of “Fancy,” leaving no judgment.

Reba accepted her honor alongside fellow entertainment icons, Cher, Wayne Shorter, Philip Glass. Also honored, were creators of the Broadway musical, "Hamilton" Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, Andy Blankenbuehler, and Alex Lacamoire for their "transformative work."

Tune in to see these special moments and more hosted by Gloria Estefan on December 26th at 8 PM ET on CBS.
