Ella Langley shared how her signature look happened because “I have a bad tendency to cut my own hair.”

The country superstar, 26, appeared on a new episode of This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von on Tuesday (April 7). During her conversation with the podcast host and comedian, Langley shared that she has a habit of snipping her locks herself, but it led to a signature hairstyle that “changed my life.”

“I have a bad tendency to cut my own hair,” Langley told Theo Von. “I don’t know [why]. Because it doesn’t always go — most of the time, it goes bad. That’s how I got bangs in the first place. I was wearing a cowboy hat for a while, and then I took it off because it was windy one show… And I liked how my bangs were kind of around my face, and like 20 minutes before I walked out on stage, I decided to cut my fringe a little bit and it was so bad. …And I was shooting the cover art for my first record that next week and Caylee [photographer Caylee Robillard] was like,” she gestured with her middle finger, ‘hate you.’

“I just told her full send it with the bangs,” Langley said. “I don’t think I can ever change it. It changed my life a little bit.”

Von insisted, “I think it’s the music,” that changed Langley’s life. The reigning iHeartRadio Music Awards Best New Country Artist is days away from releasing her highly-anticipated sophomore record, Dandelion. She teased sneak peeks of a few unreleased songs from the 18-track album during the podcast, including “Last Call For Us,” “Bottom of Your Boots,” and “Broken.” So far, Langley has released the title track, Be Her,” “Loving Life Again,” and her history-making single, “Choosin’ Texas,” which came to life with a cinematic music video earlier this month. Dandelion will release on Friday (April 10).

throughout the podcast, Langley also spoke about growing up in Alabama, her songwriting, the meaning behind her album’s title, the NSFW parody lyrics she’s afraid she might accidentally sing on stage, and more. Find the full episode on iHeartRadio here (warning: language).
