Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney marked a milestone on Thursday (December 7). The award-winning duo, Dan + Shay, “met 11 years ago today,” they shared on the band’s Instagram story.
“Since we’re not on the road right now, we are together hanging at the house celebrating and being grateful for the day that changed our lives,” Dan + Shay said in a written statement on their Instagram story. Then, they sought input from their fans: “We wanna record an acoustic video in a bit, but need y’all to pick the song. Reply to this story and let us know what you want to hear. Anything is fair game, but we’re currently in the Christmas spirit, so maybe one of our Christmas songs?
“Thank y’all for continuing to support our music. You are truly the reason we get to do what we love.”
Dan + Shay later posted an acoustic rendition of “Take Me Home For Christmas,” writing in their caption on Instagram: “We met 11 years ago today. Whether we’re on the road or at home, we always make it a point to get together to celebrate the day that changed our lives. We’re truly so grateful for all the support y’all have shown us over the years and hope our music continues to mean as much to you as it does to us. Here is an acoustic version of the first original holiday song we ever recorded, TAKE ME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS. When we asked for requests earlier today, this one was at the top of the list. Drop a comment and let us know which song you want to hear next and thanks again for allowing us to do what we love. 🎄”
Smyers added in the comments that some of the other most-requested songs were “Bigger Houses,” “What Took You So Long,” “Neon Cowgirl,” “For The Both Of Us,” “Pick Out a Christmas Tree,” “Officially Christmas” and others.
Dan + Shay have delivered several festive fan-favorites over the years, including “Take Me Home For Christmas,” “Holiday Party,” “Officially Christmas,” and others. The duo’s latest release is Bigger Houses, a 12-track record that made its highly-anticipated debut in September. The full-length album includes “Save Me The Trouble,” “Heartbreak On The Map,” “Always Gonna Be,” “We Should Get Married” and other highlights. The album comes shortly after the duo revealed they nearly split up, but reconciled and returned stronger than ever.
