Miranda Lambert Talks New Country Musical Podcast, 'Make It Up As We Go'

Miranda Lambert built a career telling stories through her music, and now she's taking her storytelling talent to a new podcast.

The country star will be a featured cast member and executive producer of an upcoming, scripted, country-musical podcast called Make It Up As We Go.

The new podcast will follow the story of an aspiring young female songwriter, played by musician Scarlett Burke, and her pursuit to make a name for herself in the music industry.

"I built a career telling stories, specifically through music," Lambert tells People. "I was drawn to a new form of storytelling with podcasts, which I have never done before. The main character, played by Scarlett Burke, and her challenges as an aspiring singer/songwriter are ones that I can relate to firsthand, which really captivated my attention."

Lambert can relate to the main character's journey as she learns the ins and outs of Nashville and makes a name for herself along the way.

"I came to Nashville 18 years ago and really started cutting my teeth as a songwriter and performer," she says. "So I can relate to the trajectory of a singer/songwriter's career that comes with many highs and lows. This story captures those moments in a compelling narrative."

Lambert will play an important role in the podcast as herself, alongside an all-star cast that includes Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton, Bobby Bones, Lindsay Ell and Craig Robinson. Original music from Lambert, Burke, Ell and Nicolle Galyon will also be featured throughout the podcast.

Make It Up As We Go, created by podcast content production studio and network Audio Up, will be released through iHeartPodcast Network on October 1.
