Thomas Rhett Inspires Fans To 'Be A Light' During ACM Special

On Sunday (April 5) during the ACM Presents: Our Country television special, Thomas Rhett delivered an encouraging performance of his new song "Be A Light."

The song, released on Rhett's 30th birthday (March 31), is a collaboration with Keith Urban, Reba McEntire, Hillary Scott and Chris Tomlin. Rhett co-wrote the inspiring track alongside Josh Miller, Josh Thompson and Matt Dragstrem.

"I wrote ‘Be A Light’ last year as a way to process negativity and sadness I was seeing in the world," Rhett explains. "Now, as I sit in my home with my family on my 30th Birthday, we are in the middle of a world-wide pandemic affecting every single human on earth, all while our town of Nashville is still healing from devastating tornadoes that destroyed so much of our city less than one month ago."

He continues, "But, among the wreckage, I see us come together in ways I never dreamed possible. I knew in my heart this was the time to share this message with the world and our community. The voices who join me on this track are some of the brightest lights I know. I hope this song serves as a reminder that we are all in this together.”

Proceeds from "Be A Light" sales go to benefit the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund. This fund goes towards members of the music industry who are currently suffering from the coronavirus and those out of work due to the pandemic.

The song instantly connected with fans across the country, making it one of the most streamed and purchased songs of the week. One fan in Mesa, AZ, was so inspired by the song that she rallied kids in her neighborhood and had them use sidewalk chalk to draw hearts and positive messages. A few hours later, she decided to get out her drone and film all of the artwork the kids had created. Once she saw how magical the video footage was, she posted it on social media using “Be A Light” as the background music. She never intended for anyone outside of her community to see it, but the incredible video footage caught the attention of Thomas Rhett and even NBC’s Today Show who featured the artwork on air. ACM Presents: Our Country replaces the 55th Annual ACM Awards which were postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Eric Church, Miranda Lambert and more were several other artists featured on the special as well.
