Arizona Hospitals Stop Allowing Visitors Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Hospitals throughout Arizona are changing their visitor policies to further help stop the spread of coronavirus.

AZFamily has put together a list of the local hospitals plus their changing schedules to help families understand when/how they can visit their loved ones who may be getting care:

Abrazo Health

• Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital
• Abrazo Arrowhead Campus
• Abrazo Central Campus
• Abrazo Mesa Hospital
• Abrazo Scottsdale Campus
• Abrazo West Campus

• No visitors starting at 7 a.m. on Friday March 20

• “Exceptions may be made for certain patient groups, such as patients in labor, end-of-life and certain exceptions for discharge support,” according to a hospital spokesman. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis at each facility.

• Entrances will be limited and everybody will be screened.

• “These measures will be in effect until we are advised by the CDC or local public health authorities that it is safe to return to normal visiting practices.”

• Implemented no-visitor policy on Thursday, March 19. This include any locations, including clinks, urgent cares, imaging centers, surgery centers and occupational health services locations. 

• Exceptions: Patients who are younger than 18 may have one adult visitor with them. Laboring mothers are also exempted from the restrictions and are permitted to have one support person. Visitors are subject to health screening at all locations to ensure they are not exhibiting symptoms of respiratory illness.

• Exceptions: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit patients, Labor and Delivery patients, Emergency Department/Trauma Center patients, Transplant patients (under specific circumstances) will be allowed one adult visitor who will be screened

• No visitors will be allowed in the Emergency Department or the inpatient hospital rooms.

• NICU/Pediatric areas will be restricted to one parent and no children. Parent will be screened and badged.

• Labor and Delivery will be restricted to one visitor only, and the visitor will be screened and badged. No visitors allowed after birth.

• Inpatient operating room, outpatient operating room, Cath Lab, Endoscopy and Interventional Radiology procedures

   - Both patient and one visitor will be screened with a temperature check

   - Patient will be escorted to procedure area and visitor will remain in waiting room.

   - Following the procedure, the provider will talk with the visitor and they will be asked to leave the hospital.

• From 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.: John C. Lincoln, Deer Valley and Scottsdale Osborn and Thompson Peak will be restricted to two entrances. Scottsdale Shea will be restricted to three entrances.

• From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.: John C. Lincoln, Deer Valley and Scottsdale Osborn and Thompson Peak will be restricted to one entrance. Scottsdale Shea will be restricted to two entrances.
