Luke Bryan Reveals How 'American Idol' Gave Him a Whole New Fanbase

Luke Bryan is a household name in the world of country music — just last month, he made history in Los Angeles when he became the first country artist ever to sell out Dodger Stadium and is also a notable performer in Minneapolis — but the 42-year-old will be the first to confess that not everyone knows who he is. Although, that number's dwindled since he became an American Idol judge.

"There's a segment of the world that doesn't even listen to the radio, they just watch TV," he recently admitted to The Boot. "They just learned who I am."

In 2017, the country star announced he was joining the singing competition reboot with Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, and since the season wrapped he has noticed more people, well, noticing him.

"When I hop in a cab somewhere and the cab driver is like, 'I know your voice, you're a judge on American Idol' — It's just a whole other segment of people," he explains.

Though garnering a larger fanbase is, of course, a perk, the "Most People Are Good" singer enjoys mentoring up-and-coming artists more than anything else.

"I think the people at home can tell that we really are in there for the good of these kids, and to get them going," he says. "We don't just roll in and punch our two hours. We truly care about what happens to them. Any chance we have to help them, we will."

American Idol has been renewed for another season, though details have no yet been revealed.
