During the taping of Thursday's Late Show David Letterman surprised fans by announcing he would be retiring.
Letterman’s last show will be sometime in 2015 when his contract with CBS is up.
On The Late Show, Dave said the first person he informed was CBS head man Les Moonves. "I phoned him just before the program, and I said 'Leslie, it's been great, you've been great, and the network has been great, but I'm retiring.'"
When Dave says goodbye for the last time he will at that point have hosted the Late Show for 22 years. He did Late Night for another 11 years on NBC.
There’s no word on who will replace Dave, but Late, Late Show host Craig Ferguson’s name is already being mentioned.
David Letterman will celebrate his 67th birthday on April 12th.
