(KFYI News) — A fast-growing wildfire in eastern Arizona has already resulted in pre-evacuation orders for the communities of Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside, McNary, Fort Apache, and Hon-Dah. As of early Wednesday evening, the only full evacuation was for the small community of Forestdale.

The Navajo County Sheriff's Office says the fire grew in just the first few hours on Wednesday from less than 500 acres to more than 2,500.  It's burning in rugged terrain with a lot of underbrush as fuel about 12 miles south of Show Low but moving to the north due to high winds.

A 20-mile stretch of US Highway 60 is closed south of Show Low, between mileposts 318 and 337.

The Red Cross has opened a shelter at Snowflake Junior High School for evacuees from the Cedar Creek fire who need a place to stay.
