The Los Angeles County coroner's office is confirming the death of Hollywood icon Mickey Rooney. An official said the 93-year-old died Sunday at his L.A. residence. In the meantime, celebrities from Hollywood and beyond have taken to social media to mourn the loss of the versatile and prolific actor. William Shatner called Rooney "one of the greats," and said his thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Film critic Richard Roeper remembered Rooney as "a hoot" when he got the chance to interview him, and comedian Jeff Dunham said he was a "piece of irreplaceable Americana."
Piers Morgan, Anne Rice, Ben Bailey, Johnny Knoxville, and Lena Dunham are just some of the many others who also used Twitter to share their thoughts and even a few jokes about Rooney.
"Always get married in the morning. That way if it doesn't work out, you haven't wasted the whole day." Mickey Rooney, who died today. RIP.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) April 7, 2014
