PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix police say five people who belong to the same family have been arrested and accused of shoplifting from numerous stores. They say in surveillance video, members of the family rip off clothes from the Dillards store at Arrowhead Towne Center.

When a security guard confronted them they sprayed him with pepper spray.

Police say the family members traded some of their stash of lingeries for drugs and sold the rest at yard sales held at their home in Tolleson.

A normally quiet neighborhood except when "From Mars" is practicing. FOX 10 asked members of the band what they thought about someone allegedly running a shoplifting ring right down the street.

"That is no good, you can't be stealing stuff from a place and expect to make money off of it, that is just scum stuff," said Kenyttiesh Thomas.

When cops busted the family affair they found security tags still on some of the stolen clothing.

According to Officer James Holmes, those arrested include Elizabeth Rodriguez-Alvarez, her three children, Terri Vargas, Lizette Vargas, and Mario Vargas, and her son-in-law Jose Alvarez-Burgos.

About $15,600 was stolen from Victoria's Secret, Dillard's, Ulta, Express, Charlotte Russe and Aeropostale valley wide.

Holmes says some of the stolen lingerie and other stolen items were traded for drugs while others were sold at yard sales.

In addition, Holmes says the investigation has extended to shoplifting thefts from stores in Flagstaff and Prescott where authorities also are investigating.
